My stress and anxiety during this pandemic have doubled being a wife, business woman, and mother at the same
time. Ever since I started using this, I love waking up and reconnecting with myself. The cold plunge, I
believe, changes my life. It relieves my stress and clarifies my thinking, which is really huge help for
people like me.
We Read the Sauna Failure Threads. Price Didn't Predict Them. Two Things Did: the Build, and Who Answered.
Daylight through the roof. Cracked boards. A supplier who went quiet. The stories are not sorted by what people paid. Buy cheap, buy twice, the forums warn, and two things decide which you do: the build, and who answered.
PlusLife Health team/Sydney, Australia/Updated October 2026
Nothing to pay and nothing to sign: just the call, and both of you are welcome on it.
Max Traditional 2.0, website product photograph. From $14,990.
Editorial note. A paid feature written and published by PlusLife Health about its own saunas. The forum accounts quoted below describe other companies' products; none of those people is a PlusLife customer.
Somewhere in week three, most people stop reading brochures and start reading complaints. It is the smartest move in the process, because the complaints are not where you expect.
They repeat in four shapes: cracked boards, timber that warped after the first heavy rain, lights that never worked, and underneath them the one that hurts, a company that stopped replying. Here is the account that stays with you, from an Australian owner writing about a unit he bought elsewhere.
"I have paid a LOT of money and expected to have a product that would be shipshape and live for 20 plus years... I told the owners of the company I got it from it had some cracks in the boards and I could see daylight through the roof... my general thought is, I have paid for a product that is not doing what it was marketed to do, and so consumer law in Australia supports returning it. I'm not keen to go and find another and have to repay an electrician too."An Australian barrel-sauna owner on a public forum, describing another company's product. Not a PlusLife customer.
Read what is in that. He paid a lot, he had rights, he told the company, and then he was on a forum at night reading up on consumer law, working out whether paying an electrician twice was worth it. The product failed, and the recourse failed after it. The second one is the expensive failure.
Max Traditional Sauna 2.0, full glass front. Designed in Australia, 100% built in Europe.
Then the part that surprised us: plenty of the worst accounts come from people who spent real money. Another Australian owner described a good-looking cabin that warped almost immediately, with lights that never worked and a broken door handle. His summary: given the price it felt like a scam. Not a PlusLife customer either.
Price signals plenty of things. It did not reliably signal this. Two things did: the build, meaning what the timber is, how thick and who made it, and whether anyone was at the other end.
The product failed, and the recourse failed after it.
A forum gives you the shape of a failure, not the rate of it.
Promises are free. Warranties are written. So are countries of manufacture, wall thicknesses, and a delivery quote you get before you pay a deposit.
A page this focused on failure can make the whole idea look like a risk to be managed. It is not. One of you will read the five questions as millimetres and warranty terms; the other wants to know where it goes, what sits under it and how it looks from the kitchen window. Both lists are here.
01
What is the timber, and how thick?
Two of the four failure shapes are this question left unanswered: cracked boards, timber warped after rain. Neither species nor thickness shows up in a photograph.
The answer that should worry you
"Premium timber." "Nordic wood." A species with no thickness, or a thickness with no species. A listing that answers neither half has answered you.
The answer to accept
A named species, a treatment and a number in millimetres, with the reason the number is what it is.
Ours, in writing
42mm walls on the premium traditional line. Thicker walls mean better insulation, faster heat-up and a better sauna. That is the whole reason for the number.
Timbers are Thermo-Aspen and Thermo-Pine, chosen for harsh Australian climates. Benches in Aspen or Alder, knotless and smooth so you do not get burnt. Bench heights are set for proper loyly, so the whole cabin is heated: in plain terms, the heat reaches every bench, not only the top one.

02
Who builds it, and where?
The quiet suspicion is that much of what is sold here is the same cabin with a different badge on the door. Ask any brand where its saunas are built, then notice how many answers stop at a style.
The answer that should worry you
"Imported." "European style." A style is not a place and a design is not a factory. In the threads, plenty of owners could not name where their unit was made even after it failed.
The answer to accept
Where it is built, stated in writing, with a certificate of origin if you ask for one.
Ours, in writing
Our traditional saunas are designed in Australia and 100% built in Europe, where sauna was born. The whole traditional range is 100% built in Europe, including the Arc, Cove and Meridian. A certificate of origin is available on request.
The infrared line is Australian design, available indoor and outdoor.

Worth knowing
The glass house, since we are standing in one: a factory builds every sauna on your shortlist, ours included, and ours is in Europe. The test is never whether a brand builds them itself, it is whether it will say where. Whoever will not say where has answered you.
03
What does the warranty say, per model, in writing?
This is where the failure stories turn. The owner at the top of this page had terms; what he did not have was a company acting on them.
The answer that should worry you
One figure stretched across a catalogue, or a term given in a chat window and never in a document. A catalogue figure can mean nothing for the model you are buying.
The answer to accept
A term for your exact model, in writing, before deposit, with what it covers.
Ours, in writing
Five years residential, extendable to ten, on the European traditional range. Every model's term comes in writing before any deposit, with what it covers, so you read the document rather than a summary of it.
We stand behind the products we sell, and the document is how you check that before a cent moves.

04
Can we sit in one, or at least see one?
You cannot check how a room feels at temperature through a browser. This is the cheapest question on the list and the one most listings fail.
The answer that should worry you
Photographs, a render or two, and nowhere you can go and stand in one. If nobody can point at a physical unit, the answer is no.
The answer to accept
A place you can stand in one, arranged without a deposit attached to it.
Ours, in writing
We get it. You want to see it before you buy. Speak to us about our locations. Showrooms are open by appointment: bring a tape measure, read the Harvia nameplate on the heater, sit in the heat.
Ask on the call whether there is a host within reach of you.

05
What do delivery and assembly cost, before any deposit?
The second sticker. It arrives after the sauna has been chosen, the worst possible order, and it is why projects stall with a deposit already paid.
The answer that should worry you
A sticker price and silence about everything after it. Or "contact us", a booking wall unless somebody tells you why the number cannot be published.
The answer to accept
Both numbers for your address, and the electrical requirement, before anything is paid.
Ours, in writing
Delivery and assembly are quoted for your address before any deposit, because access, the base, distance and whether a crane is needed move the number. Our in-house assembly team installs saunas nationwide.
Electrical costs are not on the website because they vary by property. If a figure is needed the electrician is about $1,500. We also have a network of sauna-trained electricians we can recommend, and your own electrician can speak to our team.

The order these things happen in
Most stalled backyard projects are an order problem, not a money problem: the electrician's number arrives after the model has been chosen. Put the call first and the rest runs in sequence.
The call, before you settle on a model. Bring a photo of the space, rough measurements, where the power is, and the models you are circling.
The base goes in. A deck or a slab, sized from the technical drawings for your model.
It is delivered. Quoted against your access, so there is no second number on the day.
It is assembled. By our in-house team.
Your electrician connects it. We have contacts around Australia; otherwise use your own electrician.
Heat, and enjoy.
Before you ask
Nobody here is going to hurry you. Some models and colours are in stock and ready to go, others are built to order. If your site is mid-renovation, a deposit holds your unit until your site is ready, so a built-to-order model is there when you want it rather than starting its build once the deck is finished.

Every cell in our column is ours to stand behind. Bring the five to the call.
Two of the five stop being checkable once the money has gone: where it is built, and what the warranty says for the exact model. Weight those hardest.
The other list
Where it goes, how it looks, and the argument that actually stalls couples
This one gets asked on the deck with a tape measure rather than in a browser tab, and it decides just as much.
Where it goes, and what is underneath it
Three things settle before delivery day: what it stands on, how close to a house or fence it may sit, and how it gets from the truck to the spot. Deck, slab and pavers each answer differently, lawn does not qualify, and a side path decides more than anyone expects.
Your spec sheet and the technical drawings for your model come with your written quote. Send a photograph of the space on the call and the answer is about your yard rather than yards in general.
How it looks from the kitchen window
Every photograph on this page is the product as sold, not a render. If you would rather a barrel, the Cove Barrel is black-stained timber with a tall, narrow glass door, from $10,490, and preferring one for how it sits on your deck is a legitimate reason rather than a lesser one.
Cove Barrel, from $10,490. Website product photograph, not a render.
Stones or emitters
The genuine stall in most households is not the brand, it is the format: one of you wants stones you can pour water over, the other wants panels and a gentler room. We sell both, so put the two of you on the call together and settle it against the room you actually have.
Wanting the room warm when you get home is not a reason to switch format: the traditional builds can be scheduled from the Wi-Fi controller app, answered in the questions below.
The Harvia Wi-Fi control panel. Every traditional sauna can be optioned with it, a premium applies, and Harvia is behind the app.
The second thing
Who answers in year three: the facts you can check
The build you can check before you pay. Recourse is harder, so here is what a stranger could verify in an afternoon.
Sauna companies have gone into liquidation and left buyers without their deposit. That is the fear underneath the year-three question, and the answer to it is a list of checkables rather than a promise:
Family-run since 2021. Two founders, a husband and wife, named on the About page. We use our own products every day.
Our in-house assembly team installs saunas nationwide. The people who put it together work for us.
Harvia parts. We partner with Harvia, the biggest sauna heater manufacturer in the world. Harvia is a publicly listed company, with options based on your usage and sauna size.
Showrooms are open by appointment, and every price is on our website.
Terms and the warranty in writing before any deposit.
The build you can check before you pay.
Before a cent moves
Ask any brand, this one first, four things in writing: what the deposit is, what it is for, what happens to it if you cancel, and whether the balance falls due before delivery or on it.
Ours are in writing before you pay anything. Australian Consumer Law sits on top of whatever we write.
In owners' words
Two owners, in their own words
Two product-page reviews, on what happened after the deposit.
"The team at PlusLife were patient while I got the site ready, which I appreciated and delivery was smooth once we were set up."
Liam H., New South Wales. PlusLife product-page review, Max Traditional 2.0.
"…with the assistance of great customer service when I required it."
Neil D., South Australia. PlusLife product-page review, Mini Traditional 2.0.
Customer quotes are reproduced verbatim from PlusLife product-page reviews and describe individual experiences, not a typical or promised result.
The honest exception
One time the answer is to wait
Reading failure threads makes everything look dangerous. It should not: most saunas sold here work fine. The one time we would say wait is when one of you is not actually sold, because a cabin that one of you resents is the most expensive version of this purchase, and no specification fixes it.
Have them on the call. Put the phone on speaker, let them ask their own list, and decide together.
Bring the five questions
Put them to us directly, then put them to everyone else
Five questions, answered live by someone who knows the whole range. Bring a shortlist, ours or anybody else's, and bring each other, because half the questions on this page belong to the person who is not reading it.
For a traditional sauna, yes. The cabin needs its own dedicated circuit, hard-wired, and only a licensed electrician can make that connection. Your model's requirement comes in writing, so whoever you use quotes off a document.
Yes. Any outdoor sauna can be used indoors, it is simply weatherproofed, and our in-house assembly team is experienced with the tightest spaces.
Yes, on the traditional builds. Which heater you choose decides whether the cabin comes with built-in controls or takes the Wi-Fi controller as an option, at a premium. Those prices are on the website and confirmed on the call. The app is Harvia's own.
Schedule it before you leave: it works out how long your cabin needs and messages you when the room is ready. Heat-up is 20 minutes to an hour on average, depending on the temperature you want.
We do, and the test is the one you would put to anyone: a sale price should have a reason you can hear out loud. A display unit is a reason, so is a superseded model. Silence is not.
Bring any written quote from another brand to the call and we will go through it against the same five questions.
What the checking is for
Buy cheap, buy twice.
Everything above is about not getting burned. What the checking is in aid of is smaller than the research suggests: nobody in those threads is arguing about the twenty minutes at the end of a day. They are arguing about whether the cabin lasted long enough to hand them over.
The wellbeing case
The case for the room is older than the forums. The Finnish studies people cite are part of decades of research into the physical and mental benefits of regular sauna use, in any season, and an ice bath beside it gives you the hot-cold contrast. What owners describe is smaller: warmth, quiet, and a conversation that was not going to happen on the couch with two phones in it.
The phrase cuts deeper than it sounds. Plenty of the people buying twice in those threads had not bought cheap the first time; the second buy arrived three years later, at night, on a forum, reading up on consumer law. The five questions are how you avoid that version. Put them to us, then put them to the other tab.
Next step
Bring the five questions. Ours is on the shortlist too.
A short call, by phone, both of you welcome, before you settle on a model. You leave with:
The written warranty term for any model you shortlist
Delivery and assembly quoted for your address
The electrical requirement for your model, so your electrician quotes first rather than last
