7 Questions to Ask Any Sauna Supplier Before It Goes on Your Gym Floor. Start With What the Heater Is Rated to Run.

You don't need to be a sauna expert to put one in a gym. You need straight answers from whoever is quoting it. Ask us the seven first. Then ask everyone else the same seven.

Editorial note. Written and published by PlusLife Health, which sells the saunas it describes, so read it as a supplier's notes rather than an independent review. Quotes attributed to James Little, founder, PlusLife Health, are his words on the record, 17 August 2026.

A sauna on a gym floor is a different purchase from one in a backyard, and almost none of the difference shows in a photograph. It sits in the heater, in who builds the cabin when the room is an odd shape, and in what is on the quote before you pay a deposit. The bare list is here if you would rather just take it to your quotes.

  1. What is this heater rated to run: all day, or an evening?
  2. Who builds it when the catalogue does not fit my room?
  3. What exactly is quoted before I pay a deposit?
  4. What will my electrician need, and who pays for that?
  5. When can it actually be on the floor?
  6. If the ice bath is going in, what pump and filter does it carry at commercial use?
  7. Will you draw the room first?

If you only ask one, ask the first: what is this heater rated to run, all day or an evening? A home sauna runs one household's evening; a gym sauna runs a full timetable. If a supplier cannot give you an answer, that is also an answer.

Why these seven and not the seven on the brochure

Most sauna quotes an operator receives are written for a home: parts specified for one household's evening, asked to hold a hot room from the first session to the last.

The test underneath is simple: a supplier who has thought about commercial hours can tell you what the heater is rated to run without checking. One who has not will talk about the timber instead.

None of that shows in the photos. It shows in the answers.

Worth knowing

If you are not the one who signs: the seven are written to survive being forwarded, and question seven produces the one document that makes the case for you in a meeting you are not in.

01

What is this heater rated to run: all day, or an evening?

The heater is the one part that stops rather than wears. A cold room on a booked timetable is refunds and apologies that afternoon.

A weak answer sounds like

"It's a commercial sauna." "It's a 9 kW, that'll be plenty." Both swap hours for size.

A straight answer sounds like

Something specific about continuous running, tied to your hours, with the manufacturer's rating behind it. If they cannot tell you what happens at hour nine, you are being quoted a home unit at a business price.

And if a number does come back, ask whether it is the manufacturer's continuous-duty rating off the datasheet, or the supplier's own sentence. The document is the test. The number on its own is not.

Our answer

We specify commercial-grade Harvia heaters, the biggest sauna heater manufacturer in the world, publicly listed, built to run all day, sized to your room and timetable, with the manufacturer's datasheet available.

Ask us for the datasheet on the call, and ask everyone else for theirs. Anyone who has one sends it the same day.

On the controller

Every traditional sauna can be optioned with the Wi-Fi controller, a premium applies, or comes with built-in controls, depending on the heater you pick. Harvia is behind the app: it schedules heat-up, learns how long your room takes to reach temperature, and tells your smartphone when it is ready, so the room is hot for the first session rather than for whoever opens up. Prices are on the website, confirmed on the call.

  • Commercial-grade Harvia
  • Sized to your room and timetable
  • Manufacturer's datasheet available

02

Who builds it when the catalogue does not fit my room?

Recovery rooms are rarely rectangles, and what a supplier does when the catalogue cabin does not fit tells you which kind of supplier you have.

A weak answer sounds like

"We can do custom." Then no builder, no lead time, and a quote that is the catalogue unit with a different door.

A straight answer sounds like

Who physically builds it, whether they have built at your scale, and how the heater is resized when the room grows. Specifying the heater for the larger volume is the part that needs someone who has done it.

Our answer

When the catalogue does not fit, the sauna is built from scratch by our in-house build team, drawn to your floor, with the heater sized to the drawn volume. In James's words they have "built massive gym saunas from scratch." The build is scoped on the call, drawn into the floor plan and quoted rather than listed.

Catalogue cabins carry the standard answer: our traditional saunas are designed in Australia and 100% built in Europe, where sauna was born. A certificate of origin is available on request.

  • In-house build team
  • Heater sized to the drawn volume
  • Drawn into the plan, then quoted

03

What exactly is quoted before I pay a deposit?

The surprises are almost never in the cabin price: they are in delivery, assembly and the line items nobody mentioned because nobody asked.

A weak answer sounds like

A cabin price, "plus delivery", "we'll sort the rest closer to the date". Or one all-in number with no breakdown: the same problem wearing a suit.

A straight answer sounds like

Cabin, heater specification, delivery, assembly, each with a figure, plus a named list of what is excluded. The exclusions are the more useful half.

Our answer

Delivery and assembly costs are known and quotable on the call, before any deposit, alongside the cabin and the heater specification.

The exclusions, in full

A page telling you to interrogate suppliers cannot be vague about its own. Electrical connection is by your licensed electrician and is not in our quote.

On top of the quote sits the commercial support package: Commercial Use Coverage at $500, and scheduled maintenance packs at $440 for six months or $850 for twelve. Coverage plus scheduled maintenance is part of how the units keep running on a full timetable, and what each line covers is set out in the quote, in writing.

Whether commercial heater specification changes the cabin price is confirmed in your quote, in writing.

  • Cabin, heater spec, delivery, assembly
  • Quoted before any deposit
  • Exclusions named, not implied
04

What will my electrician need, and who pays for that?

Traditional saunas hard-wire, and the licensed electrician who makes the connection is a separate, mandatory line in your budget.

A weak answer sounds like

"It just plugs in." "Your sparky will work it out." Neither is a specification, and unknowns get quoted generously.

A straight answer sounds like

The supply the specified heater requires, the phase, and a clear statement that this is a separate cost you pay someone else. Ask for it in a form you can forward to your electrician.

Our answer

Electrical connection is excluded from our quote and we say so before you ask, because it depends on your premises rather than our unit. Australian supply runs 230 to 240 volts single phase, or 400 volts three phase, and a traditional sauna is hard wired either way.

The supply and phase for your specified unit comes in writing after the call, in a form you can forward to your electrician. We also have a network of sauna-trained electricians we can recommend.

  • Hard-wired, licensed electrician required
  • Supply and phase in writing after the call
  • Sauna-trained electricians we can recommend

Bring the room and the timetable. We come back with the space drawn.

The commercial consult is with a person rather than a form, and afterwards we build a 3D floor plan of your space with the units placed, so you see the suite your members would move through before you spend a dollar on it.

Bring your room dimensions.

05

When can it actually be on the floor?

A recovery suite is usually a dated plan, and "soon" is not a date, so ask early: the answer changes which unit you should buy.

A weak answer sounds like

"A few weeks." "It's on the next container." Neither is a date you can put in a timetable.

A straight answer sounds like

Stock status per unit, a delivery month for anything on order, a separate answer for a custom build, and an assembly window you can put in the timetable.

Our answer

Stock and delivery windows are shown on each product page: in stock, on order with a delivery month, or contact us for availability.

Custom builds get their lead time on the call, and the assembly window is quoted with delivery before any deposit.

  • Stock windows published per product page
  • Custom lead time given on the call
  • Assembly window quoted with delivery
06

If the ice bath is going in, what pump and filter does it carry at commercial use?

If the ice bath is in scope it needs its own question, because that is where a residential specification shows up fastest.

A weak answer sounds like

A chiller temperature range and nothing else. Ask what pump is fitted, what the filtration is, and whether this is the commercial version or the home one with a commercial invoice.

A straight answer sounds like

A named difference between the residential and commercial versions, in components rather than adjectives. If a supplier says the commercial one is "heavy duty" and cannot say what is different inside it, they are quoting you the home one.

Our answer

Standard water treatment on our ice baths is ozone, a 20 micron filter and a particle filter. The commercial units carry a much bigger pump than the residential unit, and a larger external filter about 3x the residential cartridge, on top of that. That is the specification, named part by part, which is how to ask any supplier for theirs.

Published prices: Commercial Ice Bath $6,730 to $7,730, Commercial Chiller $4,950, as displayed on 13 August 2026 and subject to change. The ice baths are Australian design.

  • Much bigger pump on commercial units
  • External filter about 3x the residential cartridge
  • Ask any supplier to name the parts
07

Will you draw the room first?

The last question separates a supplier from a box mover: will they lay out your actual space before anything is ordered?

A weak answer sounds like

"Send us the dimensions and we'll tell you what fits" is a stock check, not a layout. The wet path is what catches operators out: members come out of the ice bath dripping, and if nobody drew where that water goes, it goes into the timber.

A straight answer sounds like

Yes, here is what we need and here is what you get back. Ask whether it costs anything and whether it shows your room or a generic one. Your own room, drawn, is the thing to put in front of whoever signs.

Our answer

Yes. Commercial spaces get drawn first. On the call we go through the room, the timetable, the power, where the drain is and how many units the space realistically takes. Afterwards our team builds a 3D floor plan of your wellness space with the sauna and cold units placed and sends it to you, free. No gate, no form beyond the booking.

Why we do it first

It is free because drawing the room is how we scope the job: work we do anyway, done before you commit rather than after.

What we do not promise: a turnaround time, or a plan built by anyone other than the people who took your call.

  • Free, after the call, no gate
  • Your room, your units, your wet path
  • The thing to hand to whoever signs

Will you still pick up in year three? Fair question.

PlusLife is family-run since 2021 and founder-operated, with husband and wife founders named on our About page. The team that takes your call specifies commercial-grade Harvia heaters, with Harvia parts behind every unit, and behind the quote sits the commercial support package: coverage, scheduled maintenance and our in-house assembly team, nationwide. Showrooms are open by appointment, and every term comes in writing before any deposit.

We've done full wellness fit-outs with multiple sauna and cold rooms, and we drew the 3D floor plans that planned them.

The units these questions get asked about

Every price below is the cabin as listed on the product page. Heater specification, delivery and assembly are quoted on the call before any deposit; electrical is by your licensed electrician and excluded; commercial-use items are quoted with the rest. Prices as displayed on pluslifehealth.com.au on 13 August 2026 and subject to change. When the catalogue does not fit, the sauna is built from scratch to your floor by our in-house build team, by quote, scoped on the call and drawn into the plan.

The spec, in short

42mm walls on the premium traditional line. Thicker walls mean better insulation, faster heat-up and a better sauna. Timbers are Thermo-Aspen and Thermo-Pine, chosen for harsh Australian climates. Benches in Aspen or Alder, knotless and smooth so you do not get burnt. Bench heights are set for proper loyly, so the whole cabin is heated.

Heat-up runs 20 minutes to an hour on average, depending on the temperature you want and the weather. Per-model dimensions, seating and specifications come in writing before you choose.

When you do not need the commercial build

Not every commercial address runs a gym timetable, and paying for an all day specification you will never use is a poor purchase. A clinic seeing clients by appointment, a sauna for staff rather than members, or a floor still testing demand before it commits: loads like these look nothing like a full timetable, and a home-specified unit can be the right call.

And if the room, the power or the timetable does not justify an all day build, you hear that on the call rather than after the plan is drawn.

The seven, on one screen, ready to forward

Screenshot this or send it on. It works on our quote as well as anyone else's.

  1. What is this heater rated to run: all day, or an evening?
  2. Who builds it when the catalogue does not fit, and have they built at my scale?
  3. What is on the quote before I pay a deposit, and what is excluded?
  4. What supply and phase will my electrician need, and can you send that to them?
  5. Is this unit in stock, and if not, what month, and how long is assembly?
  6. If the ice bath is in scope, what pump and filter does the commercial version carry?
  7. Will you draw my actual room before anything is ordered, and what does that cost?

Not all seven weigh the same. Two decide the purchase: what the heater is rated to run, and what is quoted before the deposit; vagueness on either is the disqualifier. Two more tell you what kind of company it is, and the last three are scheduling and scope.

One rider on question one, and it is the part that does the work: if a supplier gives you a number, ask them to email the manufacturer's datasheet it came from. A sentence instead of a document is your answer. That applies to us as well. Ask us for ours and the datasheet arrives the same day.

Ours in one line: commercial-grade Harvia heaters with the datasheet available; the quote itemised with exclusions named; stock windows public; the room drawn after the call. If someone above you signs, the plan and the quote are what you send. Hold every supplier to the same seven, us included.

The questions operators ask next

Is there a commercial warranty?

Commercial warranty terms are published on our website. They carry usage requirements for commercial settings, how members use the units matters for cover, and both the term and the requirements are confirmed in writing on your quote.

Is anyone running one at commercial use that we could talk to?

Ask on the call whether an operator near you is running one. What we can put in front of you is the founder on the record, a showroom visit by appointment, and the specification for your room in writing.

What actually happens on the call?

You describe the room and the timetable, we ask about power, access and the drain, and you put as many of the seven to us as you want answered. You leave with the specification for your room, what a quote covers, and a date for the plan. There is no presentation to sit through.

What does a whole recovery suite cost?

The parts are published: cabin prices are on this page and every product page, and the commercial cold unit prices are in question six. Heater specification, delivery and assembly are quoted on the call, and electrical is your electrician's number. Add them up for a real total instead of a headline one.

Our sign-off comes from a partner, a board or head office. What should we send up?

Two documents: the floor plan and the quote. The plan puts your actual room, units placed, wet path drawn, in front of someone who has never stood in it. The quote itemises the rest.

Ask us the seven. Then leave with the room drawn.

One free consult about your space, your timetable, your power and how members would move between hot and cold. Then a free 3D floor plan, with the units placed. No obligation, no follow-up pressure.

If the spend is next quarter, or next financial year, book it anyway. The drawing is the part that has to happen first, so that when the money moves, the room is already decided.

  • The seven answered for your unit, not in general
  • Commercial-grade Harvia heaters, sized to your room and timetable
